Billy and Sue - B J Thomas

1. This is the story ‘bout Billy and Sue,
       C                                             - Am
    they were right in love as were            any two,
                   C                  - G
    and yet Billy had to d.....ie,
                             F                        G     - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -    C - Am
    and when you hear the reason why, you’ll hang your head and cr.....y.

2. Billy and Sue met the first day of school,
            C                                 - Am
    and ever since lived by the            golden rule,
                       C                        G
    because when you do unto others,
                       F                                G    - - - - - - - - - - - - -   C - Am
    what you wouldn’t want done to you, you’d have to be a foo........l.

3. This mutual agreement of             love and trust,
                         C                         Am
    made them travel the road to marriage or bust,
                      C                                  G
    and when Billy was old enough to take a wife,
                  F                                         G      - - - - - - - - - - -  C - Am
    he was old enough to fight for his country and his way of li.........fe.

    Sue’s letters came every day,

    strengthened his cause, they showed him the way

    to fight for his country and the girl he loved,

    that’s a soldier’s only pay.

4. But then Billy heard no more from Sue,

    he was worried sick, but what could he do ?

    The bullets were screaming as he hugged the ground,

    and back home         Sue was runnin’ rou......nd.

5. Billy was getting’ less and less strong,

    his hope, his faith was almost gone,

    and then like a miracle a letter appeared,

    Billy tore the letter open and he read “Dear Jo......hn”.

6. A look came over Billy that would             scare a ghost,
             D                                      - Bm
    a familiar look seen on soldiers           coast to coast,
            D                                     A
    and even though the air was filled with lead,

    Billy jumped up - - - they shot him dea........d.

7. Billy was buried in a far away grave,
                - D                                 Bm
    it read        “For his country his life he gave.”

    But that epitaph was only a part,
                   G                                      A    - - - - - - - - - -    D - Bm
    he didn’t die from a bullet, but he died from a broken hea........rt ...
